ABIDE BY A CODE OF ETHICS
NARI
OFFERS CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS
In 1988, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry
certification program provided the remodeling industry with its
first formalized standard of expertise, knowledge, and ethical
conduct among professional remodelers. Today, the NARI
Certification programs continue to offer a measure of skill and
expertise valued not only by other professional remodelers, but
by consumers as well. Prized by those who have achieved the
designation, these programs identify remodelers who have
submitted themselves to detailed review and testing in areas of
business management, ethical conduct, and technical skills. NARI
Certification offers a valuable marketing tool – assurance that
the consumer is choosing a professional with years of
experience, dedication to ongoing training, and a commitment to
ethical conduct.
NARI
has six distinct certification designations: CR (Certified
Remodeler), designed to recognize and identify full-service
remodelers. CRS (Certified Remodeler Specialist), reserved for
remodelers who specialize in a particular area of the industry.
CRA (Certified Remodelers Associate), designed for individuals
who actively support the remodeling industry as architects,
designers, educators, manufacturers, publishers, suppliers, and
consultants. CLC (Certified Lead Carpenter), designed
exclusively for lead carpenters who are skilled and
knowledgeable in the technical, hands-on aspects of their work,
but who also have demonstrated skill and knowledge in project
management, supervision, and customer service. CRC (Certified
Remodeling Contractor) developed for the student as well as the
remodeler who is in the early part of his/her remodeling career.
CKBR (Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler), designed for
contractors involved in the unique aspect of kitchen and bath
remodeling. This certification qualifies specialists in the area
of kitchen and bath remodeling.
NARI
offers annual recertification. All NARI certified remodeling
professionals must participate in a combination of continuing
education, association activities, community service, and/or
other industry related activities to be eligible for annual
recertification. These requirements strengthen the individual’s
skills as well as the overall reputation and meaning of NARI
Certification.
NARI SERVES THE COMMUNITY
The Sacramento Chapter of NARI participates in a number of
worthwhile activities to assist members of the local community
each year. Programs that have been supported by the Greater
Sacramento Valley Chapter of NARI include RebuildTogether
(formerly Christmas In April), fund raising for KVIE local
television, Sacramento Crisis Nurseries, toy and gift drives at
Christmas benefiting the Sacramento Children’s Home, Mustard
Seed School, and Wind Youth Services.
NARI SUPPORTS EDUCATION
Five
years ago, the Chapter began designating a percentage of all
proceeds from its activities to be used for start-up funding for
an educational foundation. This foundation has been formed and
scholarships dispersed. Chapter volunteers have begun
discussions with local schools, school districts, and technical
schools to determine how our foundation can be of assistance.
Scholarships will be awarded and grants given to deserving
schools/programs – all with the goal of helping those who wish
to enter the construction industry. Members of this program will
also develop and present classroom presentations and activities
geared toward educating students about the remodeling industry.
The NARI Education Fund and members of NARI are also supporters
of Sacramento Valley Technical High School (www.SVTHS.org),
a vocational education charter school located in the Natomas
Unified School District. SVTHS currently has three career
pathways focusing on Construction, Culinary Arts, and
Graphic/Web Design. NARI members serve on the Board of Directors
as well as provide volunteers to participate on the Construction
and Culinary Arts career pathway advisory committees. Support
from the NARI Education Fund has provided tools, textbooks, and
materials/labor for tenant improvements.
EXCELLENCE
IS HONORED – Contractor of the Year
The Contractor of the Year Awards (CotY©) are designed to
recognize and reward excellence in the professional remodeling
industry. Local NARI members compete in 25 categories. Projects
must be significantly better than average and exhibit an
outstanding or insightful approach or result. Some of the
factors taken into consideration during judging include: the
degree to which the expressed needs of the client were met,
evidence of superior craftsmanship, overcoming difficult
obstacles, and the innovative uses of materials and/or methods
of construction. An impartial panel of judges, who are experts
from within the industry and associated fields, select the CotY©
Award winners.
